Shares

Shares represent part-ownership in a company. They can be ordinary shares, preference shares or partly paid (contributing) shares. Ordinary shares are the most commonly traded security in Australia. Holders of ordinary shares are part-owners of a company and may receive payments in cash, called dividends, if the company trades profitably. They are a class of shares which have no preferential rights to either dividends out of profits or capital on a winding up.
